കേരളത്തിലെ കാലാവസ്ഥയില്‍ വര്ഷം മുഴുവന്‍ കൃഷി ചെയ്യാവുന്ന ഒന്നാണ് ചീര എങ്കിലും നല്ല മഴക്കാലത്ത്‌ ചുവന്ന ചീര നടത്തിരിക്കുന്നതാണ് നല്ലത്. ജീവകം എ, ജീവകം സി, ജീവകം കെ എന്നിവയുടെയും ഇരുമ്പിന്റെയും നല്ല ഒരു സ്രോതസ്സാണിത്.
പല തരത്തിലുള്ള ചീരകള്‍ ഭക്ഷണമായും ഔഷധമായും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. അമരന്താഷ്യ വിഭാഗത്തിലുള്ളതാണ് പൊതുവേ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതെങ്കിലും മറ്റ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ടവയും ഉപയോഗിക്കാം
വിവിധയിനം ചീരകള്‍
- പെരുഞ്ചീര (ചില്ലി) വെളുത്തതും, ഇളം ചുവപ്പുള്ളതും, ചെറിയതും എന്ന് മൂന്നുവിധമുണ്ട്.
- ചെറുചീര (പറമ്പുചീര, ചാണച്ചീര, തണ്ഡുലീയം, പുനര്‍മ്മുരിങ്ങ)
- കുപ്പച്ചീര (വാസ്തൂകം, വാസ്തുച്ചീര, ചക്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചീര). ഇത് വലിയതെന്നും ചെറിയതെന്നും രണ്ടു തരമുണ്ട്. വലിയതിന് അല്പം ചുവപ്പു നിറമാണ്.
- മുള്ളന്‍ ചീര
- ചെഞ്ചീര (നെയ്ച്ചീര)
- തോട്ടച്ചീര
നിലമൊരുക്കലും നടീലും
നിലം ഉഴുത് നിരപ്പാക്കിയതിനുശേഷം 30 – 35 സെ. മീ. വീതിയില്‍ ആഴം കുറഞ്ഞ ചാലുകള്‍ ഒരടി അകലത്തില്‍ എടുക്കുക. ഈ ചാലുകളില്‍ 20 മുതല്‍ 30 ദിവസം പ്രായമായ തൈകള്‍ 20 സെ. മീ. അകലത്തില്‍ നടാം. ഹെക്ടറിന് 50 ടണ്‍ ചാണകവും 50 : 50 : 50 കി. ഗ്രാം NPK യും അടിവളമായി നല്‍കണം. മേല്‍വളമായി 50 കി. ഗ്രാം നൈട്രജന്‍ തവണകളായി നല്‍കാം. ഓരോ വിളവെടുപ്പിനു ശേഷവും 1% യൂറിയ ലായനി തളിക്കുന്നത് ചെടികളുടെ വളര്‍ച്ച ത്വരിതപ്പെടുത്തും.
രോഗങ്ങള്‍ / കീടങ്ങള്‍
ചുവന്ന ചീരയില്‍ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രധാന രോഗമാണ് ഇലപ്പുള്ളി രോഗം. ഇതിന്റെ ആദ്യ ലക്ഷണമായി ഇലകളില്‍ പുള്ളിക്കുത്തുകള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു. ക്രമേണ ഇലകള്‍ മുഴുവനും ദ്രവിക്കുകയും താമസിയാതെ ചെടി മുഴുവനും നശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. പക്ഷേ പച്ച നിറത്തില്‍ ഇലകളുള്ള ചീരയ്ക്ക് ഈ രോഗത്തെ ചെറുക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ശക്തിയുള്ളതിനാല്‍ ഈ രോഗം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നില്ല. അതിനാല്‍ രണ്ടിനങ്ങളും ഇടകലര്‍ത്തി നടുന്നത് ഒരു പരിധിവരെ ഈ രോഗത്തെ ചെറുക്കുന്നതിന് ഉപകരിക്കും. കഴിവതും ചെടികള്‍ നനയ്ക്കുന്നത് മണ്‍്പരപ്പിലൂടെ ആയാല്‍ ഈ രോഗത്തെ ഒരു പരിധിവരെ അകറ്റി നിര്‍ത്തുന്നതിന് ഉപകരിക്കും. ഡൈത്തേണ്‍ എം 45 എന്ന രാസകീടനാശിനി വെള്ളത്തില്‍ കലക്കി ചെടി മുഴുവന്‍ നനയത്തക്കവിധം തളിക്കുകയും; പാല്‍കായം സോഡാപ്പൊടി, മഞ്ഞള്‍പ്പൊടി എന്നിവ വെള്ളത്തില്‍ കലക്കി ഉപയോഗിക്കുകയുമാവാം.
